You scored as Fantasy Goth. You are a Fantasy Goth. You may or may not actually be a goth, but “normal” folks see you as one of those weird kids, and you are probably considered a geek by quite a few.

| Somewhere along the line, I have become a Karaoke whore.
Well, not really, but Raven & I have become Monday night regulars at the U Otter Stop Inn. This is entirely due to the fact that the Monday night host rawks. OK, it’s also because Benq and everlastingwhy frequent that night as well. And they’re Supa-Sweet. So, we starting going to Karaoke. And for some reason I actually like singing at this bar. It’s kinda hole-in-the-wall tiny and the people are generally there for a good time but neither belligerent nor so drunk their “singing” painful. Benq had told us about the “Otter Idol” contest that they’d had and how he got 2nd place. So when they announced Otter Idol 2 and touted free drinks as part of the process I said “Why not?” So for 6 or 8 weeks (I’ve already forgotten.) I got up and sang a song. And for 6 or 8 weeks I am pretty certain I came in 4th place when only the top three qualified for the finals. Every damn week. Most weeks this was fine, as I didn’t necessarily feel that I deserved to be in the top three. But I would nearly half the time this was irksome, because I was pretty sure that I’d done better than some of the people who qualified. Regardless, every week I got up and sang something. I was at a bit of a disadvantage because I wasn’t ever into Karaoke before, and as such don’t really have any songs that I’m super comfortable with, so every week was a learning experience. A few days before the finals I got a call from Toni saying that one of the finalists couldn’t participate and that since I had the highest point totals of any of the non-qualifiers that I could participate in the finals. (Raven qualified early on, with a bondage-y rendition of Sweet Dreams whilst she was wearing The Dress.) So I had to pick a song. I was originally thinking it would be awesome to do Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang (Sometimes referred to as the “Discovery Channel Song”.) while wearing a monkey suit like the ones in the video. Obviously, the time was not right for that. I considered Beautiful Day by U2, for which I had earlier received some rave reviews. (While still not qualifying) Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry was also pondered, before I decided on Sweet Transvestite from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I know the show really well, and while I didn’t necessarily feel up to dressing in lingerie, I did at least have a cape that was handy and some gothy sleeve things that look like the movie. They drew numbers to see what order we would sing in, and I ended up with number one. So I got up, sang really well, and worked the crowd. It was awesome.
I’m pretty sure I ended up in fourth place. |

Today I turned 30. <Sarcasm> w00t </Sarcasm> I mean, it is better than the alternative, but I’m still not thrilled. Of course, I’m feeling a little bit under the weather, it’s really grey outside, and I’m still tired from driving to some pharmacy in South Dakota and back. Oh, and my teeth hurt. A lot. So maybe my grumpiness is somewhat justified. Maybe. On a positive note, I finally got my Insulin Pump “training” and am now enjoying the benefits of a syringe free diabetic lifestyle. It’s still somewhat vexing considering that I cannot enjoy all of the flexibility a pump allows yet, as they are still determining the correct doses and ratios for me. In other news, I have achieved Internet Immortality! Granted, there’s only 1 credit there right now, but I will be sure that my "major contributions" to such films as, D3: The Mighty Ducks and A Prairie Home Companion will be noted there very soon. Well, I think I will go on home now. Raven & I are going to go out to Ground Zero tonight, with an actual B-Day shindig scheduled for Saturday night… I leave you with some fun facts about the year 1976….. |

I am amazed at how often I sit and stare at a blank entry. I don’t know why it is, but I just can’t seem to get started. Once the flow of babble commences however…. Well, a good chunk of time has passed. I’m not sure whether not much happened or a lot happened, but here we go. First of all, I have a mouth full of metal. This is simultaneously exciting and annoying as hell. The first week (02/24/06) was just the braces themselves, and that took some adjustment but all in all I found it passable after the first 3-4 days. However! A week later (3/3/06) they installed some other thingy in the roof of my mouth which will (hopefully) prevent them needing to pull some teeth. This has proved to be much more difficult to adjust to. For one thing, I can no longer touch the roof of my mouth with my tongue. While this is not uncomfortable per se, it has made my enunciation quite a chore. It also has made eating more difficult because copious amounts of food get stuck not only under my braces but also between the roof of my mouth and this device. I better have a dazzling smile when all is said and done….. <grumble> I also have my Insulin Pump which I have been wanting for a few years now. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to get Allina to organize themselves enough to get me into their Beginning Insulin Pump class that I “have” to take. I am growing more and more tempted by the day to just hook the thing up and start using it. Still, I am doing my best to maintain some composure and I’m sure that I will be enjoying the benefits of uber-technology quite soon. Tonight, Raven, Eric, and I are off to see V for Vendetta in IMAX! I’ll check in with you again soon….. |
