It’s a bird, it’s a plane…

March 2, 2004

It’s Super Tuesday!

Today is the day us Minnesotans get to go and vote for who we want to run against miserable failure©. Raven & I have decided to stay the course, and vote for Dennis Kucinich. He may not win the nomination, but we are going to stick to our conscience and make sure the democratic party and their nominee remember that there are still some of us who want a choice in who represents us, and will not bow to the weight of “inevitability” when deciding who gets our support.

Have you heard about Hawaii? Dennis came in second place there, got 27% of the vote, 8 delegates, and yet it’s hardly even mentioned in the media. Well, we’re going to stay involved. The only way anything ever changes is through continued effort.

Incidentally, be sure and read this amazingly researched & detailed essay: An Interesting Day. It is reason #932,342,767 that W has got to go.

Help!

September 3, 2003

911

I need somebody (Help)
not just anybody (Help)
You know I need somone (HELP!)

Right. So. Umm. I think I need a nap. I think I need a long nap. In fact, I think a coma is in order at this point. I’d like to point out that I’m just not a kid anymore. Of course, I was a kid when this sign must have been posted. According to 911dispatch, it was apparently December of 1982 when 911 was introduced in Minneapolis/St.Paul. This sign has been conspicuously left above the drinking fountain of the company I am contracted to for the rest of the month. Gotta love the cutting edge…

And hey, while you’re here…the link and text are from MoveOn.org:

Recall No! Democracy Yes!
This pledge is a national effort to mobilize one million California voters in the recall election. Please sign the pledge no matter where you live and please ask friends and family in California to sign the pledge and to remember to vote October 7.

President Gore Speaks

August 7, 2003

The President in exile gave a speech today. I found the following passage of note:

And as for honor and integrity, let me say this: we know what that was all about, but hear me well, not as a candidate for any office, but as an American citizen who loves my country:

For eight years, the Clinton-Gore Administration gave this nation honest budget numbers; an economic plan with integrity that rescued the nation from debt and stagnation; honest advocacy for the environment; real compassion for the poor; a strengthening of our military — as recently proven — and a foreign policy whose purposes were elevated, candidly presented and courageously pursued, in the face of scorched-earth tactics by the opposition. That is also a form of honor and integrity, and not every administration in recent memory has displayed it.

I really can’t help but wonder how different our country would be today if certain people hadn’t de-railed the electoral process. My sincere hope, regardless of who wins the next Presidential election, is that there is no question that the candidate who was elected by the people of America actually makes it into the Oval Office.

For any liberals out there, I would like to point out the Meetup button on the left. The one there is for Kucinich, but there are others on meetup.com for Dean and others. (There are even meetups for nearly everything one can imagine, from Goths, to Star Trek, to MovableType!) If any Kucinich supporters are in the Saint Paul area, please think about attending a rally on 8.16.03 @ Central High School.

I’ll be there….visiting my alma matter….<shudder>

Rock The Vote

November 5, 2002

Well, I hope you have all excercised your rights as citizens of the United States of America and gone to your local polling place and cast your ballot for the representatives who will guide this country into the next few years of its existence. Phew! Wasn’t that an unneccesarily longwinded sentence……

So, I am going to make a concerted effort not to get as “deep” as I’ve been over the last couple of weeks. It’s kinda been a tough time. Now, I just have to sit back and try not to stress out worrying about the damn election. There has been talk of making Election Day a national holiday…which I guess I support…except what I really need to be a holiday is the day AFTER the elections to be a holiday so I can recoup from staying up all night watching returns….

BTW, I don’t think I’ve mentioned that my assignment at ADC is coming to an end. This is not a bad thing per se, however, it does throw a dash of uncertainty into the mix of my life that I don’t think I need at this point. Regardless, I’m sure it will be for the best in the long run. It does mean I may get to work someplace new and shiny…(or maybe old and shiny….or maybe new and dull…ick)

Rest In Peace

October 25, 2002

I’m not quite sure how to process this. Senator Wellstone is someone who I only met in person once, but I have always known that he was in the Senate for me. His agenda was never swayed by public opinion polls, lobbyists, or even members of his own political party. Paul Wellstone dedicated the last 12 years of his life to fighting for everything this country should stand for: Freedom, Equality, and Justice for all. The real meaning of those words, concepts, and ideas, were never far from his mind.

I grieve today, because this was a man who not only had the knowledge, skill, dedication, and heart to do what was best for him, Minnesota, and indeed, every single man, woman, and child in this country, but he was actually in a position where he could effect change. He had found his calling and was doing his best to make this country the truly great place it has the potential to be.

Senator Paul Wellstone had my voice in Washington. In my mind, heart, and soul, Paul Wellstone has my respect, my admiration, and my vote.
